{"id":466,"date":"2013-05-09T13:41:57","date_gmt":"2013-05-09T17:41:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/submusicworks.com\/wordpress\/?p=466"},"modified":"2013-05-23T07:12:04","modified_gmt":"2013-05-23T11:12:04","slug":"electric-mandolin-prototype","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/submusicworks.com\/wordpress\/?p=466","title":{"rendered":"Electric mandolin prototype"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a picture of an electric mandolin prototype I recently knocked together. \u00a0The body is pine, with a curly maple veneer cap. \u00a0The neck came off a cadaver instrument \u00a0(this is, after all, a prototype). \u00a0And the pickup is one that I wound, using a block magnet as its core. \u00a0I&#8217;m pleased with the sound of it &#8212; it&#8217;s sweet and usable in a variety of styles.<\/p>\n<p>I based the shape on an old Kay Kraft mandolin. \u00a0It&#8217;s a shape I like, as it seems to come from the same aesthetic palette as the f-style, but is less ornate. \u00a0It&#8217;s a classic, American mandolin shape that is less often seen and isn&#8217;t trying to be something else (like a scaled-down guitar).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d love to make more!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_467\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/submusicworks.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/2013-02-08_12-19-31_737.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-467\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-467\" alt=\"Prototype for the electric mandolin.
